What a beautiful rose! To answer your question, you could probably start out early and make a day of it to go to Lufkin & Athens. From The Woodlands, it's 2:40 hrs to Lufkin, then from Lufkin to Athens it's 2 1/2 hrs and from Athens back to The Woodlands it's 3 1/2 hrs. I've been known to do these types of day trips.
