Sometimes the manufacturers name on the embossed glass jar lids showed through. It would probably help the water bath reach the rubber seal.
First you filled the jar with the fruit/vegies, then placed a rubber ring on, then a glass disk, then the silver ring to help hold tight the rubber ring. The rubber rings didn't always seal. Tricky business,,canning in those days. You can buy the works on ebay,,search vintage canning supplies. www.hoosierjar.com is an interesting site.
It would help the flowers hold up as well. I put buttons and stuff in my jars.
I hope that helps
MarcieThe Rustic Victorianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11061053386942991282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5656304407057901396.post-80422217848111156292010-01-11T23:12:45.415-06:002010-01-11T23:12:45.415-06:00I have several of those too. It sits on top of the jar and then you screw that zinc lid down over it. Have a nice week! TwylaTwyla and Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04728570822318577034noreply@blogger.com
